Lots’ Lament

Posted on December 16, 2020December 21, 2020 by xvanderputt

That you would come to rescue me
When I had looked at you with pity,
It was a lust for ease that drove me
From your bosom
…………..to the comforts of that city
The glint of riches filled my eyes
I was so eager to be alone.
The chains I thought I’d ran from
We’re just the safe
…………….boundaries of home
What I’d seen before as oppressive
I could not wait to leave behind
The sacrifice of our kinship
Was a worthy price
……………………I happily resigned
I was sure that I was now in control
That my destiny was all mine
A fool is soon revealed it seems
By the passage
………………..of our Lord Gods time.
I had thought the valley greener
Than the place where we had stood
Yet, you still risked to come for me
never could I have imagined
……………….A heart so pure it would.
I lived between two worlds, my friend
A sandal upon each ground
The draw of the other more tempting
Than any of the other
……………………..Promises I’d found.
I rejected your taking me as your own
Yet when all I had was lost
It was you restored it all and more
Yet not once did you ever voice
………………………..Just what it had cost.
Never will I forget this love
This rescue from the kings
That even before I had left your sight
You had for me awaiting
……………………a robe and a fathers ring.
Know that I am much wiser now
Of foolishness, no longer guilty
I will wipe the dust from my gods eyes
And leave you now
………………..Once more for the city.
