Blindness

Posted on October 25, 2019November 17, 2019 by xvanderputt

Mark 10:46-52

What do you want me to do for you? Jesus asks the blind Bartimaus, in this week’s Gospel.
It seems such an obvious question to ask him, yet ask him He does.

He answers in accordance with his level of faith, he goes Big, and despite not being able to meet His saviour straight in the eye, I am sure he would have felt the power of His Gaze. The faith comes before the miracle. The crowd who have hushed him up now summon him by calling him “courage”.

Does it take some bravery to call out to Christ in our despair? What is there to risk? What holds us back from going Big in our petitions?

Just this week I’ve seen the Lord work the impossible in people’s lives. I’ve seen Him answer the biggest prayer of their hearts, when there seemed little hope and with no real reason why he should listen….. but that’s just it, even when we least deserve it, He still does.

I dare you this week to have the faith of Bartimaeus and go Big with your prayer, even if you feel unable to look Him in the eyes. You see if we walk with Him daily, if we know the sound of his voice, and trust even when we can’t see Him, then I think, it’s Him that’s placed that very prayer so deeply in your hearts.

Maybe just maybe He is saying “I would not place this desire on your heart unless I was prepared to fulfill it”

So, as our Lord asks us this week “What do you want me to do for you?” Be assured, He knows, He’s gazing on you and He’s waiting for your own act of faith in responding.
